Project Background

Building a New Teaching Hospital with Long-term Vision

The project was developed in partnership with one of Zambia’s leading private higher education institutions, widely recognized for its strong academic standing and long-term commitment to medical education and healthcare infrastructure development.

As a key contributor to the country’s future medical workforce, the institution initiated the development of a modern Teaching Hospital designed to support clinical education, research, and public healthcare services at a national level.

For such a strategically significant project, equipment quality, long-term operational reliability, and supplier capability were treated as non-negotiable criteria. Following a comprehensive evaluation and selection process, MeCan Medical was chosen as the integrated medical equipment partner for this large-scale hospital development.

Key Challenges

The University’s Core Concerns
Before implementation, the university identified several critical challenges:

How to equip a newly built teaching hospital with a broad range of medical equipment efficiently
How to ensure reliable operation of high-end imaging systems such as CT and MRI
How to balance budget control with long-term operational performance
How to secure continuous technical support after hospital commissioning

MECANMED’s Role

A Turnkey Solution Partner from Planning to Operation
MECAN Medical was engaged not as a single-product vendor, but as a turnkey solution partner from the early planning stage of the project.

Our scope of responsibility included:

Overall medical equipment planning for a new-built teaching hospital

Integration of multi-category clinical systems

Installation, commissioning, and user training

Long-term after-sales service planning and local technical support

This approach ensured that all equipment systems were configured for real clinical operation and long-term institutional use, rather than one-time delivery.

Scope of Equipment Supply

System-level Coverage Across Key Clinical Departments

For the Teaching Hospital project, MeCan Medical delivered a comprehensive package of core medical equipment, including:

Advanced imaging systems: CT, MRI, Dynamic X-ray systems
