What do you do when you want to train more nurses, but the money’s tight and the training equipment doesn’t even look like the people you’re supposed to care for?
That’s exactly what a nursing school in Myanmar faced when planning their nursing school expansion. They needed more nursing training models for hands-on learning, but the quality imported anatomical simulator was expensive and the local affordable medical model was way off — think mannequins that looked nothing like real patients in Myanmar. It was a mess, and honestly, it threatened the whole plan to grow.
Here’s how a partnership with MeCanMed helped them find a way out, enabling a successful 20% increase in enrollment. Not only did they save money, but they also got training models that actually reflected the local community.
Our client is an established nursing training school, dedicated to educating and deploying qualified nurses across Myanmar. Their focus is simple: to train nurses who are truly ready for work in Myanmar from the start. But with more students signing up, they needed more realistic, durable nursing training models — and they couldn’t blow the budget.
The school’s budget was tight, so those quality imported anatomical simulators were just too expensive. Local affordable medical models didn’t really solve the problem either — they were cheaper, sure, but they broke down easily or have joints that just didn’t move right. After looking at everything out there, the team still hadn’t found anything that was both tough enough and affordable. They were really stuck.
They had sourced anatomical simulators from suppliers in Thailand and India, but their nursing training models were mostly made for European and American body types. That meant broad shoulders and bigger bodies, which just didn’t match what doctors and nurses actually see in Myanmar. So when students practiced on these models, they ended up struggling once they were working with real patients. It was a pretty tough jump.
MeCanMed provided a set of affordable medical models — including infant and adult patient simulators — that balanced affordability with mechanical durability. By working straight with trusted manufacturers, we eliminated markups and delivered models that met international material standards, but without the big price tag.

The nursing training models we supplied were modeled after the Southeast Asian physiques. Everything — from baby manikins to full adult simulators —actually matched the people in the community. This meant that when students stepped into the clinic or hospital in the future, they would be already familiar with the patient profiles they encountered.
Now that the school had the right models, they opened their doors to more future nurses. The program grew, and students got hands-on practice that actually made sense for where they would work.
Students felt more confident, whether practicing IV insertion or helping with patient mobility. Instructors saw students picking up skills faster during clinical placements.
By avoiding overpriced imports and low-quality alternatives, the school used its budget efficiently. Now they’ve got a training space that’ll keep working for them — and their students — for years.
“Your models finally look like the patients we actually see — and that's made all the difference in training our students.”
